Google's big problem: its CEO sends an email criticizing the leaks ... and leaks to the press

Google's big problem

Google has several serious unsolved problems on the table. One of the most worrisome is that of leaks. And it is far from being solved: the company's CEO, Sundar Pichai, has sent an email this weekend criticizing leaks in the company ... that has leaked to the press. Is it a problem of infidelity, or is it a form of protest by some employees who disagree with the latest controversial decisions of the Internet giant?

Google announced a few weeks ago its mobile Pixel 4 but could save the event because days before they had already leaked photos, videos, and all the specifications. And the same happened with their Google Home devices and the like. The leaks occur in all companies, but it seems that in Google they are more serious than in the competition.

The problem is that they are not only produced at the product level but also at the company policy level: the contents of the weekly meetings, the TGIF meetings, are filtered. TGIF is an acronym that means Thank God is Friday, Thank God it's Friday since meetings are held that day.

This weekend Sundar Pichai has sent an email to all Google employees criticizing the leaks ... and the email has been leaked to the press. You can read it here. It ensures that it is difficult to maintain privacy in a company with more than 100,000 employees. So they have decided to cancel the weekly meetings, to which all the staff could go (in person or via the Internet).

From now on the meetings will be monthly, and will only touch on issues "focused on business and business strategy". However, meetings of a social nature will also be held "periodically", but without specifying deadlines.

It can be thought that the leaks of the meetings are the work of unfaithful and unprofessional employees, but the reality is that in recent times some controversial decisions of the company have not liked many employees, and leaks are their way of protesting.

Topics such as listening through the Google Assistant, accusations of inappropriate sexual behaviour by some employees, the decision to accept Google search engine censorship in China for not losing the market, or the transfer of Artificial Intelligence technology to Pentagon for military purposes, many employees don't like it. So they filter the meetings to the press to generate debate.

Google will not have it easy to stop these leaks, at least as long as its decisions go against the opinions of its employees ...
